Mudsmith

Mudsmith supplies drilling, completion, cementing, and workover fluids to the oil and gas industry in the Permian Basin and beyond, and has done so for more than 26 years. The business stocks commodity mud products and kill fluids, runs its own truck fleet, and takes on the supply chain and logistics side for customers whose focus is designing drilling programs, pumping cement, or producing crude. Ken Goldsmith is owner and president.

Work has since expanded outside oil and gas. The company supplies SLAG cement to the construction cementing industry, mud products for HDD industrial drilling, bentonite pellet binder for the agricultural feed industry, and bentonite for sealing landfills, road beds, lakes, dams, farm ponds, and slurry walls. It reports more than 800 customers and a leadership team carrying over 45 years of industry experience.

## Fluids and mud products

Inventory is held on site rather than ordered in, and the company states its intent is never to tell a customer a product is out of stock for the day. Kill fluids are premixed and kept on hand for emergency response, and muds are blended to spec ahead of delivery.

- Bentonite fresh water gels, sold as CementGel and Hydrogel, in bulk and bagged form
- Gypsum cement additives, including ValuFil 650 and bulk bag supersacks
- Dry bulk powders such as barite, bentonite, and calcium carbonate

## Trucking and delivery

The fleet spans several trailer types, with trucks often preloaded:

- Dry bulk pneumatic for bulk powders, with dust-free loading and unloading
- Liquid vacuum, lightweight units built to haul heavier payloads of heavy brines and premixed muds than most steel tankers
- Flatbed for bagged, palletized, and equipment loads
- Dropdeck for oversized or tall cargo, rental equipment, and forklifts
- End dump for loose bulk materials, aggregates, cuttings, and waste
- Winch for loading, unloading, and placing tanks, skids, and portable equipment

Deliveries run to either a customer warehouse or the wellsite, and 24 hour loading is listed among the service offerings. Trucks are washed out in house rather than at a public washout station.

## Rentals and equipment sales

Portable mud plants are offered on rental, adding mixing capacity at the location where it is needed. The company also sells surplus equipment, tools, and parts no longer required for its own operations, listed in categories covering bulk trailers, flatbed trailers, drop deck trailers, heavy trucks, and pickup trucks.

## Safety and handling

Mudsmith describes safety as a core operating principle rather than a box to check. Staff are trained to load, secure, and handle all products in accordance with Department of Transportation protocols.
